We are Hector and Joanie Amezcua and we have lived in Lazy Creek for 44 wonderful years.

Our story began some 48 years ago when Hector had two furniture stores and I had an interior design business. I met Hector when I was in La Habra one afternoon to see if he was in the market for accessories and silk floral arrangements for his stores. Hector happened to be in his office, and we talked for a while, and he surprisingly asked me out for coffee I said “yes,” and our romance began. We would often go horseback riding in the hills above the O.C. Mining Co. There were no homes up in the hills at that time and no traffic signals on Chapman Ave or Newport Blvd. There were a few trails that were perfect for horseback riding and to also enjoy the beautiful view of Orange County. One afternoon we were halfway down the trail when we noticed a sign that read “Lazy Creek Estates” one acre lots available for sale! We loved the country atmosphere and the down-home friendly people so much we contacted one of the agents (Jennifer Holland wasn’t old enough yet to be our Realtor. She was still a baby Ha! Ha!) and they gave us a tour of the two models that were available. Hector said this was for us! Fast forward a few years later we were married. Hector had 3 children and I had 2 children and we started our own Brady Bunch!

We already bought a home in Placentia and the kids would go to the Orange Mall and bring home some chickens and then they would make their way to Margaret’s Wagon Train and pick up ducks and rabbits. Hector made small pens for the new arrivals upstairs in the recreation room with heat lamps and blankets. It became obvious that chickens and ducks were not welcome in the City of Placentia – especially since they grew bigger and bigger, and our idea of a larger yard grew also. Hector was an avid hunter and would go hunting in Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, anywhere he could get a license. While he was away on one of his hunting trips, I decided to take a serious look at some of the lots in Lazy Creek. I walked several lots and decided I loved the shape and size of the lot on the corner of Saddleback and Orange Park Blvd. The very next time Hector called home from Montana I mentioned that I had put a deposit on one of the lots in Lazy Creek. It had a beautiful white fence & horse trails surrounding our property. Thank goodness he was thrilled with my surprise! (I neglected to mention that the deposit was nonrefundable.)

We moved into our dream home just before Christmas with our Christmas tree and all. Our family was now complete with plenty of room for the chickens, ducks, rabbits and turkeys. As our animals grew so did our happiness living in OPA. There were parades on the 4th of July and at Christmas and always beautiful horses and riders on the horse trails up and down Orange Park Blvd.

Down the road there was a family that raised Fallow Deer – something I always wanted. Hector and I introduced ourselves and we purchased a small newborn Fallow Deer that looked just like Bambi. We named her Faith. We all took turns bottle feeding her and when she caught a cold, we bought the cutest playpen so she could be warm and sleep in the master bedroom with us until she got well. Our farm grew by leaps and bounds, but was not quite complete without a goat, so we purchased a beautiful white goat from Margaret at the Wagon Train. Our time in Lazy Creek has brought us so much happiness. We now have 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Also, we have a yard for plenty of animals and plenty of parties with our family all year long. Hector and I have been so blessed to be a part of the OPA community.

Our adventure here has been truly a Blessing and a Dream Come True.
